Eel Catcher on Broads with Fyke Net

1960

BBC Look East news story about a local eel catcher and his catch.

The eel-catcher pulls out his net from the water and onto his small boat. The net is emptied into a large container kept on the boat, the eels slide down from the net into the bottom of the container, where they slither about. He pulls in another net, similar nets appear to have been laid out on stilts on the surrounding marsh land. He struggles with the heavy container lifting it onto the land where the box is emptied and the eels slide out into a large wooden box. Having completed the task, he finds and displays one eel which had obviously avoided the move into the new container.
