Off cuts from the 1936 Colchester Cine Club film drama “One Happy Day”
Off cuts from the making of the Colchester Cine Club film “One Happy Day”, a 1936 drama about the kidnapping of Colchester Carnival Queen. The reel opens with shots of a tree-lined road, crowds in Colchester High Street awaiting the carnival, and the float of the Carnival Queen. A scratched and grainy sequence shows a man struggling with a woman in a kidnapping attempt. Two girls brush their hair and apply make-up. During the Carnival Queen competition, girls in summer dresses parade before the judges. The film slips in the gate during telecine transfer of further shots of the girls, ending with scenes of the fancy dress carnival.
