Civil Defence in Action: Headquarters
1962
Cat no. 215521
A documentary depicting the operations of Civil Defence Corps headquarters.
Depicting the work of Civil Defence Corps headquarters, the documentary illustrates coordination and signal control operations in the aftermath of a nuclear attack. With a dramatised narrative featuring survivors fleeing for safety, the film depicts the various roles and tasks carried out at the headquarters, and shows the mobile control units which can quickly replace external control centres destroyed or damaged in an attack. Out in the field, the headquarters rely on the work of the control and welfare sectors, as well as the laying of field cables for efficient communication and the involvement of reconnaissance teams sent to assess damage levels and measure radioactivity. Back at headquarters, the Scientific Intelligence Officer predicts possible fallout risks to assist with planning, whilst a special information point is set up to deal with outside services. Taking into account all the information gathered, the commanding officer can then deploy the necessary life-saving units to affected areas.
