Dutch Tour

1961 , Harwich (Essex)

Inserts for the first episode of an Anglia Television series on a return journey to Holland.

Production elements from the first installment of Anglia Television's four-part travel special, documenting a return journey across the North Sea from Harwich to Holland. Features four segments which would have been inserted into the broadcasted programme. Dick Graham narrates the first segment, which features views of the railway yards and port of Harwich, the terminus of British Rail's continental services, where ships wait for cargo trains and the SS Colchester is shown with cargo being loaded and unloaded. In the second segment, also narrated by Graham, preparations are underway for the night service crossing the North Sea on the SS Amsterdam. Inside, the ship is fitted with hotel-like lounges, dining saloons and cabins, as mail is hoisted aboard for Europe and beyond. The final two items are mute, and feature operations inside the engine room of the Amsterdam, where an engineer and the ship's captain check gauges and make running checks.
