Peter Robinson Dept Store Official Opening

1961 , Norwich (Norfolk)

Anglia Television mute news footage of the official opening of the Peter Robinson Department Store in Norwich.

A large crowd of women gather at the entrance, keen to enter the store. A lady [perhaps a Norwich city official but name not known] cuts the ribbon to mark the store’s official opening. Two ex-servicemen in military uniform attend the door allowing the lady official to enter the store, who is presented with a bouquet of flowers. Inside, the store’s layout, its millinery and dress departments are visible, attended by staff. Keen shoppers, all women, some with children hurry into the store. An overhead shot shows the vast department floor space as shoppers explore. A lady cautiously opens a small box at the perfume counter; while a second lucky consumer to her surprise, appears to have been notified as a prize winner.
