Is The Extra Hour in Summer Time a Good Thing?

1960 , Loddon (Norfolk)

Anglia Television new report which asks members of the public for their opinion about British Summer Time.

A collection of street interviews for an Anglia Television report asking residents of Loddon, Norfolk whether they think that the extra summer daylight hour is a good thing. Among those interviewed is a shopkeeper who, despite saying he has no particularly strong views, would like to see it remain as it is in the summertime because he benefits from the extra evening trade. Meanwhile, the local postman says he's 'easy to please', whilst a workman would prefer to keep the lighter evening hours all year 'round. An elderly gentleman suggests that the extra hour is no good for the farmers (but that it doesn't effect him), whilst an elderly lady argues that the farmers can 'look after themselves'. Also interviewed is the Assistant Manager of the local dance hall, who says the extra hour is bad for their trade because people don't like to dance whilst it's still daylight outside, and Mr Brown - the oldest resident of Loddon - who thinks the extra hour is marvellous, echoing suggestions that everybody would benefit if it was retained all year 'round.
