Railway Stations for Sale
1963 , Norfolk (County)
Cat no. 9860
An Anglia television news item about abandoned railway stations in Norfolk, and an interview with the British Railways' surveyor in charge of selling them.
Abandoned railway station buildings in a remote part of Norfolk [picture only for 34secs]. The interviewee stands in front of a sign, "British Railways - District Surveyor". He describes the large response to the advert offering disused railway stations for sale, especially from prospective buyers in London. The properties are attracting people who want a retreat from city life, the remoteness being part of their appeal. One station has been sold to a retired railway man who has converted it into a dwelling. The interviewee agrees that the 'off-beat' style of the buildings is becoming fashionable to a certain type of buyer.
