Felixstowe Holiday Makers

1963 , Felixstowe (Suffolk)

An Anglia television news item interviewing traders and holiday makers in Felixstowe about their attitudes to staggered holidays.

An amusement arcade full of children, followed by women playing electronic 'bingo'. Reporter, John Myatt, asks the bingo manager to give his views on staggered holidays. He is enthusiastic as it spreads his revenue opportunity, but a bingo player prefers the traditional, fixed August break. A trader, selling cameras and film, argues that she could not cope with the 'rush' of the old August holiday. Other holiday makers appear to prefer the idea of the staggered holiday. A shot John Myatt interviewing a couple paddling in the sea while the waves roll over his shoes and trouser turn-ups. A sun-bathing young couple conclude the report with differing opinions: the man thinks staggered holidays improve the road traffic conditions, the woman would rather have the reliability of August heat and sunshine.
