Potton Historical Society documents local wedding ceremonies.
Documentation of wedding ceremonies held in the Bedfordshire town of Potton between 1954 and 1961, usually featuring guests arriving at St Mary's Church, the arrival of the bridal party, post-ceremony photographs and the departure of the newly married couple. Footage of the wedding of Derek Rowley and Ann Norman includes a reception at Potton Junior School, whilst Scoutmaster David Hutchinson and Janet White emerge from their wedding to a guard of honour by local Scouts. Mr J Rowe marries Ann Hibbert, who is given away by her uncle, followed by the marriage of Richard and Megan Lenton and a snowy churchyard for the marriage of Brian Johnson and Joyce Jennings. Also included the marriages of Richard Woodwood and Olga Reynolds, Mr H Walter and Olive Hardy, Mr B Walter and Barbara Warren, Mr A Baxter and Joan Lenton, Mr G Meadows and Norma Truin, and Dr J D Robson and Dr Valerie Anderson, who hold their reception just outside town at John O'Gaunt Golf Club. The weddings were filmed by Mr Randall, a local cinema owner in Potton, who used to show his films of local events as part of the cinema programme. The films were subsequently edited together and titled by Potton History Society.
