High and Dry!

1970 , Essex (County)

Filmmaker Joan Hammond narrates the story of boats left in dry dock at the end of the season.

Joan Hammond’s narration accompanies shots of ‘forlorn and forgotten’ boats left in dry dock at the end of the sailing season, many of which are undergoing repairs or up for sale. Potential buyers wander by as Hammond captures the eclectic names the boats have been christened with. Hammond characterises some of the boats as ‘looking cross’ or ‘waiting pathetically for a chance to join their fellow craft in the marina.’ The film ends with a shot of boats in the water.
