Seven-Twelve: Ex Yarmouth
1978
Cat no. 5493
A BBC East documentary depicting the working life of an inter-city rail service.
On a crisp morning at Great Yarmouth railway station, preparations are underway for the 7:12am service to London. Once the engine has been shunted, and the engineers have made their final checks, the passengers buy their tickets and board the train, which heads out across the Broads towards Norwich, before heading to London via Ipswich. Along the journey the film introduces some of the people who work on the train - chef, dining car attendants, drivers, ticket inspectors - as well as showing some of the work along the line which helps this train, and others like it, to arrive safely at its destination. And after a long, slightly delayed, journey, the train arrives at Liverpool Street station, delivering its cargo of commuters, shoppers and sightseers, before the cleaners move in to prepare the carriages for its next voyage.
