Excavation of a lost medieval village at Wharram Percy.

Film describing the archaeological excavations undertaken by the Deserted Medieval Village Research Group at Wharram Percy. There are shots of: unidentified individuals involved in excavation work; parts of the structure uncovered during the excavation of plot 10, notably the unexpected discovery of an abandoned manor house predating lesser medieval dwellings; artefacts found during the excavation, including beautifully carved bone dice, a bronze ring, a bone needle, a silver thimble, a buckle, a sharp spike probably used for piercing leather, a heavy iron nail from roof, and a jaw of a wild pig or boar. The film makes use of models to illustrate what typical medieval dwellings might have looked like, and also plans of plot 10 at Wharram Percy to illustrate the successive stages of the excavation, as well as, the dwellings discovered. The film concludes with exterior and interior shots of the last surviving building in Wharram Percy, its derelict church.
