["Look Back To The Future" March]

1959

An Anglia Television report on a surreal backwards marathon march.

Participants compete in Anglia Television's bizarre 'Look Back to the Future' march, where teams of 'marchers' take part in a backwards walking race. Making their way around an old building, they compete for top honours, eventually crossing the finish line with the wave of an Anglia Television 'flag'. Although the race is complete, the absurdity continues, as a prize is presented to the winning pair behind their backs, and participants are interviewed by an Anglia Television correspondent. One man says he took part to 'prove that we could go backwards just as well today as our grandfathers could', whilst another claims that he has been 'very backwards' since he was a child. One pair is interviewed about their disqualification, and a pair of female competitors claims inspiration from Emily Pankhurst, whilst another man suggests that 'backwards marches are going forward all the time'.
